Mean What You Say…and DO IT!

August 28, 2012

The Bard came back….the very next season…….haha.

It has been some time since I last posted in this  blog.  It had somewhat shifted to, as whilst in China, I was not permitted to access my blog due to internet restrictions on particular sites.  Anyhow, I felt compelled to start it up again, especially because of what I have been experiencing these last few months since being back from Asia.

The usage of words has become an area of particular focus for me lately.  Not because I am a songwriter, but rather, a human being interacting in this world with other human beings.  As human beings, our movement forward, or regression backwards, is dictated by our communication/miscommunications and corresponding actions with each other.  We move forward by giving our word, and following through on it.  On the contrary, we fall back when we don’t live up to what we promise.  It’s quite simple:

Your word is the most sacred and powerful tool you have in your life.

The illustration that forms in my mind is that of a boat, with your word being the sail, and your actions the gusts of wind that drives you to new and exciting horizons.  With no wind, where are you left?  Stranded in the ocean is where!

I have moved through the phase of my life where being let down facilitates the development of anger and frustration, to a place where I can observe the reaction in myself, and figure out why it comes with bothersome feelings.

What I have concluded is that even in the simplest forms, failing to follow through on your word is the complete and utter destruction of trust, and it happens at such a basic level.  A friend of mine, life coach and motivational speaker Jesse Ferrell said it best when I heard him say “How you do one thing, is how you do everything.”  So true, and I am starting to understand the weight of this statement.

Be honest and act with integrity.  That is the challenge I am putting out to you all.  It’s cool if you can’t commit to something….just say so.  It is not disappointing because it is real, and you are being honest with yourself, which in the end of the day, leads to a healthier, happier, and better functioning version of yourself. Thanks to those in my life who do with this with flying colors.  You are the stars burning brightest in the night sky.

Mean what you say……and DO IT!
